Eight-year-old Aisha is from a little city Banda Aceh, Indonesia. She just starts second grade when her father takes their family for the very first time to America to accompany him finish his studies. As her family starts their new life there, so many questions pop inside her head. Why do the Americans wear shoes in the house? Why do they open gifts right in front of the giver? Why are the little girls forbidden to get their ears pierced until they reach their teenage years? Why is she sent home from school just because of a couple of head lice on her head? So many questions for her to find the answers to!


Author Biography

Yunisrina Qismullah Yusuf, Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Syiah Kuala

Dr. Yunisrina Qismullah Yusuf was born in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. During her childhood, her parents took her and her two sisters to America to accompany their father to pursue his Master‛s and Ph.D. degrees at Oregon State University. Those were the years they learned a new language, culture, and  environment that were different from Aceh. She is now married and has five children. She is a lecturer at Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. She has published many research papers in academic journals; thus, A Plate of Rice and A Pan of Pizza is her first published work of children‛s fiction. She enjoys reading and writing with the company of some good food and music.
